2013 Oscar Viewing Party

The 85th Annual Academy Awards are coming soon!
I've been working my hardest to see all the movies, and I'm almost done. Everyone knows there's no better way to celebrate an accomplishment than a good party. The stars gather to celebrate the fabulous films they have made, and we gather to celebrate the fact that we saw them.
Here are some helpful ideas and printables I've come across to help make Oscar night spectacular.

Invites
Although there's nothing wrong with a good evite, this is a classy affair, so you might as well class up your invites by sending them in the mail. I found these great invites at Twigs and Thistle. You can download them and print them out at home for free. Click the link below the picture for the printable.

I hate not being able to remember what drink is mine at a party.
Eliminate the confusion with these cute as can be Oscar drink charms.
All you have to do is print, punch a hole, and add a ribbon.

Games
In my house we love to guess who will win the category. We make it a competition and sometimes even bet money on it. This year is time to step it up. I found adorable 2013 voting ballots.
You can print out as many blank copies as you want. Have your friends fill them out before the show starts and see how many you get right.
Here is one I filled out with my picks, but you can get the blank version in the link below.

Food
It's not a party without good food to munch on. Why not get creative with it?
You can have some standard party food, but dress it up Oscar style.

Cupcakes with Oscar themed toppers. Guess What? It's another free printable!

Oscar themed popcorn boxes. Another free printable!
Just make sure you use some really heavy card stock for these.

Fancy gentleman hot dogs.
I have no tutorial for this but it doesn't look too hard.

Here is where my menu thoughts got a little out there, but stay with me because I like them.
I came across theese great Best Picture Nominee labels.

These little beauties got me on the thought path of movie inspired food.
Why not have a food inspired by each film nominated for best picture?
It sounded really great until it started getting hard, but I think you can still go with it.
Here is what I came up with:

Silver Linings Playbook - Philly Cheesesteak Sliders
Django Unchained - Chicken Wings
Beast of the Southern Wild - Shrimp Cocktail
(I was thinking red beans and rice for this one, but it's not really a party food)

Life of Pi - Lettuce Wraps
(or you could just have pie)
Les Miserables - Crescent Rolls
Amour - Baked Brie with Apples and Crackers

These last three was when it started getting hard.
Lincoln - Ginger Bread Cookies
(the President's favorite food)
Zero Dard Thirty - Glass Of Water
(no water-boarding allowed at the party)
Argo - Champagne Toast
(you know those people needed a drink when they got out of Iran)

Maybe you can come up with better movie inspired food than me.
Have fun getting ready for the Oscars!

Sophia Grace and Rosie

It's always a happy day when Sophia Grace and Rosie make an appearance on the Ellen show. These two girls make me feel like a rainbow, wrapped in happiness, covered in a tutu, and bedazzled in rhinestones. They are the funniest little things I've ever seen! Their extreme cuteness is even more amplified by the fact that they are from the UK and have English accents. Even the most annoying thing an American child can say is made somehow adorable by a child with an accent.

For those of you who aren't acquainted with  Sophia Grace and Rosie let me provide some info for you. Sophia Grace is an amazingly talented singer and she is only 9 years old. Her cousin Rosie, who is 6, is not so much the talent but the face of the act. Rose acts as Sophia Grace's "hype girl" and her job is pretty much just to dance around and look cute. They sometimes give her a microphone, but it is turned off. No is is quite sure what Rosie's singing abilities are, but all signs point to not so hot. Good thing she's pretty. Sophia Grace and Rosie's cover of Nicki Minaj's Super Bass went viral after their parents posted in on YouTube. Ellen DeGeneres caught wind of the talent and invited the girls onto her show, where they became instant hits performing their favorite song.

Check out this video of Sophia Grace and Rosie performing "Super Bass" on Ellen

It's hard not to love these two. They have made several appearances on Ellen since, and have even picked up their own segment called "Tea Time with Sophia Grace and Rosie" where they invite celebrities for tea. They have had Justin Beiber, Katy Perry, Resse Witherspoon, Julie Bowen, and even Russell Brand. My favorite segment was their tea with Taylor Swift. You can watch it below.

Be sure to watch the Ellen show next time Sophia Grace and Rosie make a colorful appearance.

DIY Glitter Frame

I have a million cheap little black frames packed away in a closet. I bought them a few years ago to decorate my college dorm room. They're cheap and awful, but were totally acceptable to be sticky taped to the cinder block walls of my dorm room. However, when you take them out of that environment they don't look so hot. I have no idea why I still have them, but why do I have half the things I own? Like a Lady Gaga singing toothbrush, the clapper light, and a leopard print snuggie. All are questionable purchases, but still totally necessary. One day I found myself determined to bring these black frames back into my life. I picked the obvious solution...glitterize!

      What you need
                                                                                    1. Ugly cheap black frame
                                                                                    2. Mod Podge
                                                                                    3. Sponge brush
                                                                                    4. GLITTER!

STEP ONE: Coat your frame with a layer of Mod Podge.
STEP TWO: Throw some glitter on it.
                                                 WAIT TILL DRY!
STEP THREE: Put another layer of Mod Podge on top to seal in the glitter.
                                                 Guess What? Now you're done.

I think it makes a great addition to my wall.

2013 Golden Globes

The 2013 Golden Globes aired last night and I'm happy to say all of my favorites came home winners. I dominated in our game of guess who's going to win the category game. I can't help it I have really good taste in TV and movies. My favorites for TV, Homeland and Girls, both came home big winners. Jennifer Lawrence also won for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, which might just be my new favorite movie. Ben Affleck won for best director in Argo, and the big winner for best picture went to Les Miserable!

This year the show was hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. I have to say they did not disappoint. They were hysterical but still appropriate for the event. My favorite joke was when Tina Fey told Taylor Swift to stay away from Michael J. Fox's son, who was Mr. Golden Globe for the night. With her track record of dating literally any available guy in Hollywood the warning may have been a necessary joke.

Along with the awards and the comedy you can't forget about the fashion. Here are my picks for best and worst dressed at the 2012 Golden Globes.

My Dog's a Food Slut

Like most dogs, mine is a food beggar. He'll ignore me when I call him from 3ft away, but the second someone's eating cheese in the house he's your best friend. This isn't an uncommon dog act. I've gotten completely used to eating dinner with a dog head resting in my lap watching me take every bite. Recently though my little Ollie has taken his food obsession to new sneaky lengths.

He has perfected this system where he can get away with sneaking food even in the middle of a room full of people. Let's just take a second here to go over the way Ollie has earned his appointed title of
"Food Slut"
Offense #1
It started relatively simple. One day I came home with a sandwich from Panera. Thinking it was perfectly safe to eat in my own living room, I unwrapped my sandwich and placed it on the coffee table. My mistake was leaving the room to get a water. When I left the dog wasn't even in the room, but when I returned there he was tongue on my sandwich about to go for the whole thing.
Ollie's Lesson: Wait for the humans to be distracted to move in.

Offense #2
Setting: Ladies Happy Hour. Picture a room full of women crowded around a coffee table full of appetizers. Ollie stealthily creeps his way to the table, waits for eyes to be off him, and attacks the cheese platter. Ollie one group of girls zero.
Ollie's Lesson: As long as you're cute they won't stay mad too long. Next thing you know they're feeding you crackers to go with your stollen cheese.

Offense #3
It happened earlier this week. Setting: Football party. This time Ollie had not one, but two victims. So, here we are again gathered in the living room around the coffee table filled with food. Ollie waits for his opening and takes out an entire bowl of dill dip. He gets scolded and banished to the bedroom. 30 minutes later he is missed and returns with the promise of good behavior. It didn't last long. Ollie skillfully inches his way over to our friend Roger for a nice back scratch. Roger happily obliges, but little does he know while he's petting Ollie thinking what a nice dog, our clever Oliver is inching his mouth over to Roger's nearby plate of pizza. There's victim number two.
Ollie's Lesson: Go for the visitors, because they are never on to you. Kill them with kindness, then take out their dinner.

My Lesson: Stop putting food on the coffee table.

Season 2: Girls

Season 2 of Girls starts Sunday (1/13/13) on HBO!

If you haven't started watching Girls you should now. The show was created by and stars Lena Dunham, my new favorite funny girl. She also produces the show along with Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner. Basically Lena Dunham does it all and is just freakishly talented. Girls is a comedy that airs on HBO. The show follows four very different and very unique girls in their 20s living in New York City. I like to describe it to people as a quirky girl's Sex in the City. This show if filled with so much random humor it's impossible not to laugh. Somehow Lena Dunham even found a way to make contracting HPV funny in Season 1. I can only imagine what inappropriate & hilarious things will happen next.

Check out the Season 2 trailer to see what the Girls will be up to this year:

Kate Middleton Duchess of Cambridge

Happy Birthday Princess Kate!
Today is the Duchess of Cambridge's 31st birthday.
No matter what the occasion you can always be sure Kate's fashion choices will be classic, polished, and chic. With the arrival of the Royal Baby Bump in 2013, this year promises to be another year of delightful fashion surprises. Here are a few of my favorite looks from Kate Middleton.

Movies: Les Misérables

If you haven't seen it yet go today! Although going to see Les Mis at the movie theatre is a good 3.5 hour time commitment it is worth it. I've already seen it twice and wouldn't mind going again.

The story is based on a novel by Victory Hugo. The stage production has been around for over 25 years. Several movie adaptations have come out, but none of them can compare to this one.
Les Mis is about prisoner Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), who is being released from prison. Once he is free he breaks his parole and sets out to create a new life under a different identity. He is pursued by Inspector Javert (Russell Crowe) who will stop at nothing to make sure Valjean returns to prison. The story follows Valjean through his life of becoming a new man.
Years later he is mayor in a new town and owns a factory where Fantine (Anne Hathaway) is fired from for hiding a daughter in another city. After much turmoil Valjean learns of the misfortune that has come to Fantine and promises to take care of her daughter Cosette. Valjean sets out to gather Cosette from the home she is living in with a scheming Inn Keeper and his wife (Sacha Baron Cohen & Helena Bonham Carter). They are always my favorite part of the production. The characters are hysterical and bring just the right amount of comedy to the heavy story.
After Valjean collects Cosette, he raises her as his own daughter. Flash forward years later, Cosette (Amanda Seyfried) is grown, and she and Valjean are in Paris in the middle of the Rebellion. Cosette falls in love with Marius (Eddie Redmayne) who is too cute for words. Trouble soon follows when Inspector Javert enters the city. Everything comes to a collision at a fight upon the barricades as the Rebellion battles on.
I'm sure several awards are in the near future for this film.
